High Tech Exams
High-tech eye exams use advanced digital tools and imaging to give a more precise, detailed look at your eyes compared to traditional vision exams. In addition to the “which is better, one or two?” test, these exams can include:
- Digital retinal imaging (Optos): Captures wide-angle images of the back of your eye to spot early signs of disease.
One of the best parts of this imaging is that it can take place of dilation- no more pesky drops that affect your vision for hours - OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): Works like an ultrasound but with light, giving a 3D cross-section of your retina and optic nerve. Used to monitor conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.
- Corneal topography: Maps the surface of your cornea, useful for custom contact lens fittings or detecting irregularities.
- Automated refraction and digital phoropters: Faster, more precise prescription testing.
- iCare: Checks your eye pressure quick, easy, and completely comfortable—no air puff needed!
Eye Health Management
Optometrists do much more than just prescribe glasses and contacts. They’re trained to care for your overall eye health and to catch issues early. Here are some of the most common conditions we help manage:
Everyday Vision Needs
Because the eyes are closely linked to overall health, optometrists also monitor for eye changes related to diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and even side effects from certain medications.
Children’s & Functional Vision
Everyday Vision Needs
- Nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and age-related changes in vision (presbyopia)
- Dry eye disease
- Eye allergies and irritation
- Eye infections like pink eye or styes
- Minor eye injuries or scratches
- Glaucoma
- Macular degeneration
- Diabetic and hypertensive eye disease
- Cataracts (we diagnose and guide you to surgery if needed)
- Keratoconus and other corneal conditions
Because the eyes are closely linked to overall health, optometrists also monitor for eye changes related to diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and even side effects from certain medications.
Children’s & Functional Vision
- Lazy eye (amblyopia)
- Eye turns (strabismus)
- Focusing and coordination issues
- Digital eye strain from screens
Glaucoma Testing
Many people mistakenly believe that the air puff test is the complete test for glaucoma. This is simply not true. Almost half of glaucoma cases in the U.S. cannot be detected with pressure tests. More advanced instruments are necessary for the early detection of glaucoma.... and we have them!
