Dr. Clifford Roffis, O.D., opened this practice in January 1985. Today, a team of four optometrists at 4811 S Laburnum Ave handles everything from annual eye exams to diabetic retinal monitoring, dry eye treatment, and specialty contact lens fitting. This is a practice that has built its reputation over decades, one patient at a time.
A Henrico Eye Doctor Who Has Known This Community for Forty Years
Forty Years. Four Eye Doctors. One Henrico Practice.
How This Practice Came to Be
Dr. Clifford Roffis, O.D., graduated from Grinnell College and the State University of New York College of Optometry and opened this practice in January 1985 with a straightforward goal: to give patients on the east side of Henrico careful, unhurried eye care from an optometrist who would be there for the long term.
For four decades, the practice has been dedicated to putting patients first in every aspect, providing personalized care and keeping up to date with the latest technology. Today, Dr. Clifford Roffis & Associates is proud to be considered a trusted cornerstone of the Henrico community.
Over those four decades, the practice grew from a single-doctor office into a team of four optometrists. Dr. Kenneth B. Gordon, O.D., joined and built a specialty in pediatric eye care and contact lenses. Dr. Michael Osterhoudt, O.D., brought fourteen years of United States Air Force optometry experience. Dr. Anna E. Eby, O.D., a Henrico native, returned home after completing her training in Philadelphia to focus on dry eye management and specialty contact lens fitting.
The result is a practice that handles the full range of eye care needs under one roof, from children's first exams to ongoing monitoring for patients managing glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye disease.
What to Expect at Dr. Clifford Roffis & Associates
Patients who come here for the first time often say the same thing: the eye doctor took time to explain what they found and answer questions without making them feel rushed. That is not a coincidence. It reflects how this practice has always worked.
A Thorough Examination
Every appointment includes an evaluation of your eyes and vision. For patients with diabetes, glaucoma, or dry eye, that means imaging and documentation that builds a record over time.
A Clear Explanation
After your exam, the eye doctor will tell you what they found in plain language. If there is something that needs follow-up, you will leave knowing exactly what it is, why it matters, and what happens next.
A Practice That Remembers You
The staff here are long-term employees. Many patients have been coming for years, and their families have followed. When you call or walk in, we already know you.
Who Our Eye Doctors Serve
Whether you're a teacher, a city employee, a factory worker, or a family in Sandston, Highland Springs, New Kent, or Montrose—this is a practice that has been part of East Henrico's everyday life for four decades. Patients come from across the Airport Corridor and Route 64 areas, and children are welcome starting at age five.
A large part of the patient base consists of people managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and glaucoma, who need consistent annual monitoring with the right equipment. Patients with dry eye who have not found lasting relief elsewhere often find that the evaluation process here is more thorough than what they have experienced before.
Most vision and medical insurance plans are accepted. The practice welcomes new patients.
